Some notes about climbing

General

  • Warm up
  • Climb as quietly as possible (footwork)
  • Don’t forget to smear foot into the wall for balance
  • Hips / center of gravity close to the wall
  • Think about how to hold the handholds (direction, grip)
  • Try to have opposite hand and foot be on contact with the wall.

Flagging

  • Outside flag: flag using opposite foot of the hand you are moving. outside flag
  • Back flag: same side hand and foot, to avoid barn door. back flag
  • Inside flag: Very rarely used, use when same side hand and foot, but the foot too low for a back flag.

Bouldering

  • If cant get on, start away from the wall and add momentum
  • Stand at the edge of the foothold, to lift the other foot easier

Supplemental training / Injury prevention

  • Pull ups / push ups / squats
  • Flexibility training
  • Leave finger strength training for later
